OLED Glowone display, every moment

OLED Glow is a 27-inch display with an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel. It stays close to the bed but moves through the whole home: people adjust its height, angle, orientation and position, and it can switch to ambient light. PHOENIX designed it for LG Display, and I worked on the project as a freelance industrial designer.

The brief

Since the pandemic, the boundaries between rooms have blurred: people work from the kitchen, stream films in bed and do yoga in the living room. A television is too static for this, and a phone is too small.

LG Display asked PHOENIX for a new use case for its top-of-the-line OLED panels. The team created three standalone products, and LG Display unveiled OLED Glow at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 in Las Vegas.

The approach

We mapped moments of modern living and translated them into simple mechanical principles. People move the display between positions and orientations with little effort.

The display keeps a warm, non-engineered look. When nobody uses it as a screen, it turns into ambient light for a screen-free bedroom.
